Dogs, Dogs, Dogs... Brushing and Bathing Tips.

Just like us, dogs and puppies not only need physical maintenance for appearance, but also to help them feel their best. Luckily, dogs do not need to bathe as often as people do, but you should understand how grooming your dog needs to be keep on a routine schedule.

Please take note:

*When your dog has a skin, ear or nail conditions, get professional advice from Kihei Veterinary Clinc in regards to careful grooming techniques for your pets needs. Schedule an appointment today for a check up.

Younger puppies don't require baths unless they get into something they shouldn't. Time spent soft brushing or just grooming with your fingernails will connect your pup to this learned routine. Below are some general guidelines to follow for your dogs routine grooming depending upon their breed and hair type.

A dog’s minimum brushing needs depend on his or her breed . Choose from a variety of
appropriate tools and supplies sold at Kihei Veterinary Clinic, and follow these guidelines based on your dogs hair type.
  • Long-haired dogs usually require daily brushing to prevent matting and tangling of hair.

  • Medium-haired dogs are also prone to matting and tangles and should be brushed weekly.

  • Short-haired dogs can typically go about a month in-between brushing.
Most dogs enjoy being brushed. Your loving attention sessions will strengthen the bond between you and your dog while keeping his coat healthy and his spirit lifted. Visit our blog in a few days to learn more about the "splash dance" all dog lovers groove to... "Dog Bathing 101"

We love cats as much as you do at K.V.C. Maui

At Kihei Veterinary Clinic, Dr.Kehlers Saimese cats are always present and friendly to greet the guests. We understand the bond between you and your families house cat is as important now as it was thousands of years ago... The cat-human relationship dates back to ancient times.

Evidence of coexistence between cats and humans dates back to 6000 BC from the island of Cypress, where archaeologists found bones of cats, humans, and mice buried together (Bisno, 1997).

Dr.Kehlers' Siamese "Hoochie-Mama" greets guests at the front door.

Cats have endeared themselves to many cultures for their helpful mouse-hunting skills, cleanliness, attitude, and beauty. No culture has embraced cats as highly as the Egyptians did in ancient times. In fact, according to Blalock (1997), the modern day tabby may be descended from the Egyptian domestic cat.

Keeping your families cat healthy and happy in 2008 requires more than a pyramid or fine silk bedding. Contact Kihei Veterinary clinic to schedule your loving companion his or her next check up. Use the annual guide below as a reminder and feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.
